The first UWA 3D Artists’ Choice Challenge

I am checking out the January 2012 contributions to the first UWA 3D Artists’ Choice Challenge: 3D Self Portraits. I walk around for a while and I am struck by the fact that I am experiencing a sense of relief; this is just as good as the regular UWA Challenges! I had been down in the dumps about that the fact that the monthly UWA challenges were over, but now felt a strange sense of comfort that it seemed to still exist, just in a somewhat different form. Participating artists will vote, the voting system is the same as the peoples’ choice voting system used in the past. The sponsors are artFiona, Eliza Wierwight (Patron), Mysterious Wave, Nordan Art, Phi Designs and UWA. Above please find a few of the works that caught my eye; Self Portrait, by Nish Mip, One of Billions, by Lilia Artis, Angry Beth, by Rose Borchovski, Self Portrait in Yellow, by Corcosman Voom and Am I My Avatar’s Pet?, by FreeWee Ling. Head over to UWA for yourself and take a look at these great builds. Make sure you have a mesh viewer, as some of the works have been created using mesh. Film/Machinima: MachinimUWA III: Journeys Winners

We are at the MachinimUWA III: Journeys  Winners award ceremony at the UWA – BOSL Grand Amphitheatre. This machinima challenge started on February 4, 2011 and since then received 50 entries. Today is the grand finale with a L$660,000 prize pool (First price, second price, third prize, Peter Greenaway Prize, Open This End prize and seven special prizes). I think this is the most crowded event I have been to in Second Life. I can’t see the stage and I lost voice, but I’m using Metaverse TV Live to follow it all. The event started off with a speech by Peter Greenaway and was followed by the handing out of awards by Jayjay Zifanwe. There were two grand prize winners, Tutsy Navarthna (Journey Into the Metaverse) and Eric Boccara (Juroney). Congratulations to the winners and to all who participated in this incredible event! For a full list of winners see http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/. UWA 3D Art & Design Challenge Grand Finale

I just returned from the UWA 3D Art & Design Challenge Grand Finale, which must have been one of the biggest Second Life art events of the year. It was packed. This was the closure of a very full UWA 3D Art & Design Challenge year that has been rich with artistic contributions of all kinds as well as a new beginning as the new UWA 3D Open Art Challenge officially opened. I will not mention all winners of the grand finale here, but some of the ones that struck a chord with me were the Grand Champion and the Second Prize of the Imagine Art Challenge, Nish Mip (“Umbrellas” and “The Last Ocean”); the Third Prize of the Imagine Art Challenge, Igor Ballyhoo (“Chaos in Order”); First Prize Flagship, Patch Thibaud (“UWA Cultural Precinct Nexus”); First Prize Overall Imagine Art, Sharni Azalee (“The Abyss”); First Prize People’s Choice Award, Nish Mip (“Umbrellas”) and Joint First Prize Machinima II, Bradley Dorchesters (“Art of the Artist”) and Laurina Hawks (” No Tomb for the Arts”). Looking forward to another year of artistic contributions at UWA! For a more comprehensive write up check out the UWA blog at: http://uwainsl.blogspot.com/
