Review: Avatar Orchestra Performance at Odyssey Space

I’m at the Odyssey Space watching and listening to the Avatar Orchestra perform a concert. Performing are Free Noyes, Bingo Onomatopoeia, Zonzo Spyker, Miuleiw Takahe, North Zipper and Humming Pera. I was here last time this performance took place and i loved it. This is a performance integrating movement, sound and visual art. Voices and instruments constantly shift with images on screens changing and moving accordingly. Its hard to explain exactly what is going on, its simply a constant taking in of various changing stimuli. The effect is at times rather astonishing! Also, I have to say, one of my favorite things here its just observing the avatars trying to figure out and talking about what do do next. Like Apmel said, “That’s live.” Come on over and check this out if you have time: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Odyssey/142/168/301
Review: Vive Voom at PiRats

It is really hard to explain what is really going on here. I’m at a Vive Voom event at Pirats Art Galleries, suspended in air with about twenty others, enveloped in a cylinder of sorts. The cylinder depicts a seemingly never ending apartment complex and is turning fairly rapidly counterclockwise. As we are hanging here there are suddenly clusters of white heads placed on the heads of certain people, randomly it seems. Then after a little while green blob, there is really no other way to describe it, fills part of the space. The green stuff is eventually replaced by some figures, amongst them two large fetus-like shapes. Then babies with blue spotlights coming out of their foreheads appear and suddenly the apartment complex is gone. The music is intense. A rather surreal but, captivating experience. The second part will take place in one week.
Places: World’s End Garden

I am at World’s End Garden, which consists of two separate parts; World’s End Garden and Garden of Origin, the former being completely black and the latter white. One has to teleport to each location. Both of these places are simple in their layout, ocean water rolling in and out, a few tree clusters here and there and a chaise lounge and a wingback chair in the center of it all. The effect is similar to the feeling one experiences at places like Chouchou and China; a sense of emptiness and mystery. In World’s End garden, stuck in a tree, is visible a bird cage with a dove in it, seemingly trying to get out. In the Garden of Origin, nested in a cluster of trees, is an altar with choir music, soap bubbles rise from the ground to she sky, surrounding the visitor partially. These two places have sort of a spiritual feel to them. Very beautiful. Take a look if you haven’t already: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Heaven%20Lake/160/114/1809
Review: Parallel Worlds

I’m at Parallel Worlds, a place by Claudia222 Jewell, currently in the sandbox Farstar New Earth. Claudia recently won one of the prizes at UWA and I remember having been impressed by her contribution. This place is in some regards an extension of her UWA work. I’m surrounded by oil-like bubbles, standing on a path made of snake like material, looking up at statuesque heads. Reptile and gold surfaces dominate, all intertwined into fantasy creations that become treasures of sorts. There is something very luxurious about this work. Go check this place out, its worth the trip: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Farstar%20New%20Earth/104/186/411
Places: The ionic spell

I have a very good friend who occasionally suggests places for me to visit and blog about. This time she suggested I visit the ionic spell. This is a place that contains three music performance spaces for the group Engrama. It is dark and sort of has a run down feel to it. The stages have a puppet theatre look to them and they are surrounded by or envelop grass and trees. The inside and the outside are joined here in a most magical way. Chains of light and fog compliment the picture. The group Engrama consists of Pupito Helstein and Lakua Arriaga. Their music is influenced by Sigur Ros and Sonic Youth, amongst others. In her profile Lakua writes, “What [Engrama] offers to Second Life is live music without pre-recorded tracks; a dreamlike musical soundscape which transcends from SL into RL.” I love this beautiful place and the music! Check out the band’s website at www.engramaband.tk. Here’s the slurl, go and take a look its worth the trip: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Deelish-ous%20Designs/129/51/32
Review: Lost Hi Fi

The Lost Hi Fi exhibit, by oona Eiren, had its opening at the exact same time as the last Nordan Art opening so I couldn’t go. I’m here today, on the first of three floors of this installation, surrounded by chemical tanks and pipes. I teleport to the second floor and there are cords sticking out from the walls, several TVs, a bed, two shapes on wheels with TVs on their heads, smoke and bubbles. On the third floor is a light bulb and an overhead projector. And there are sounds here, I think one of them being that of an old record player’s needle against a record. The textures used here are all of high quality, a feast for my eyes. There is a sense here of being in an old fashioned ghost place of sorts, a reminder of time passed and a stark contrast to today’s digital experience. Check out this incredible exhibit at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Compotista/212/27/29. Also, see the video of the installation by oona Eiren at http://vimeo.com/20396891. oona will exhibit at Nordan Art starting September 17, 2011, please be on the lookout for announcements.

Oh, it was a beautiful almost four hour long event at Nordan Art! The delicate ice statues by Rebeca Bashly, the magical Susa Bubble installation by Rose Borchovski and the sensual photography by Helene Lytton all complemented each other wonderfully. People were flying and walking between the gallery and the garden, seemingly not wanting to miss a thing! The exhibit goes to April 30th, make sure not to miss it. Next Nordan Art opening on May 7, 2011 at 2 PM SLT showing Simotron Aquila, Claudia222 Jewell, Paola Tauber and shellina Winkler. Photo above by ColeMarie Solei.

I’m at the Osakki mainstore at Le Look. I keep coming back here even though I know by now what the store has to offer, somehow I am hoping and wishing that there will be something new. As I enter this place I am immediately enveloped in esthetic pleasure; the layout of the store is both simple and sophisticated. Straight, modern lines in the colors black, brown and beige. A few antique looking armchairs are strategically placed throughout. The dresses, pants and tops on display here are elegant with an edge, the details are astonishing. Each item is truly unique. I love this clothing line and highly recommend a visit! Please check out the store at http://slurl.com/secondlife/LE%20LOOK%20SOUTH/136/55/29
Awards: Nordan Art Prize February 2011

We are pleased to announce that the Nordan Art Prize of the University of Australia (UWA) 3D Open Art Challenge February 2011 round was awarded to ChapTer Kronfeld for his work “Sonic Space of Silence.” Congratulations ChapTer! Below please find the Nordan Art jury’s rationale for this selection:
ChapTer Kronfeld’s work “Sonic Space of Silence” is in a large black space with an opening. Before one enters, one is advised to activate the sound. Once inside, purple cubes with numbers start falling and hitting the ground. The sound is that of a choir of voices, seemingly in agony or pain. When one sits on one of the cubes, one becomes one with the interaction, cubes falling on top and all around. It seems the cubes never settle and since one is the part of the one cube, there is a sense of unease and constant movement. This multi-media experience is one of being part of a larger chaos. ChapTer’s work stands out to the jury of Nordan Art because we feel that he succeeds more than anybody else in the February round in integrating external and internal experience.

Review: Pirats-La Manufacture Art Gallery
Posted: March 1, 2011 Filed under: Reviews Leave a comment »
I am at Pirats-La Manufacture Art Gallery at an opening showing the works by Jean Coer, Florian Gericault, Anley Piers and tshirtkikill Straaf. This is only one of the many art galleries that are part of the PiRats Art Network, a French non-profit organization founded by Merlina Rokocoko and Newbab Zsigmond for Real Life and Second Life art. The music here is upbeat and the place is full of people from the Second Life art community, walking around, mingling and commenting on the art. The PiRats openings are generally incredibly popular. The gallery building itself has straight lines and consists of steel, grey cement and tinted blue windows. There’s a second floor partition and stairs leading to a small pool on the ground floor. The design is modern. All PiRats Art Network galleries, including this one, have one thing in common; they truly feel like art galleries. Check it out at http://slurl.com/secondlife/PiRats%20Art%20Network/215/90/21.
