Östan om Solen och Nordan om Jorden

People have been asking me what Nordan om Jorden, the name of my place in Second Life, means and I thought I’d demystify it here. The term is Swedish and means something like “north of earth.” Really, it is part of a a longer title, Östan om Solen och Nordan om Jorden (east of the sun and north of earth), which in turn is the title of an old Swedish saga. The story can be found in the book Svenska Folksagor, Svensk Läraretidnings Förlag, Tryckcentralen Örebro, 1967. I loved this particular fairy tale as a child and thought the name would fit well for a place in Second Life.  So it became the name of the 1/2 sim on which currently both Nordan Art and Ahren Art Galleries are located.
